Sights of the area

While you are in Kalyves you can visit the Venetian watermill, which dates from the 16th century and is located in the village square. Very close to our accommodation is Kasteli hill from which you can enjoy a unique view of the whole bay of Souda and see a part of the Venetian Castle of Apokoronas 2 that still exists there.

One of the most important sights of the island that is worth visiting is the archeological site of Aptera 3 which is located just 10 km from Sofia. Ancient Aptera was one of the most important cities – states of Crete, which has been inhabited continuously since the 8th century B.C century until the 7th century A.D. century.

A visit to the Historical and Folklore Museum of Gavalochori, 7 km away from our accommodation, will give you the opportunity to get to know the art and traditions of Crete and to admire exceptional exhibits.

A number of attractions, museums, monasteries and beaches in the prefecture of Chania are waiting for you to discover them. We just recommend that it is worth visiting the Old Town in Chania and the most popular and exotic beach of Crete Elafonissi.
